the Knowledge Xfer, Issue 70: Import Undo Button

Hey Brendan ,

Welcome back to the Knowledge Xfer! Last week we featured how you can store tracking info in a transfer, access the shipment history and status directly in the console, or link out to the carrier's site from the transfer record. If you missed it, check it out here!

This week we're going to dive into something really important (haha): what to do when you make a mistake when importing inventory.

Generally speaking, if you make a mistake while creating data in ConnectSx, you need to fix those records manually or deactivate the data and try again. Why? Because we take the integrity of your data very seriously.

We allow you to store a lot of complex data and we help you leverage that data by creating important links between items; like, for example, your Events, Requests, and Transfers. And that means changing each piece of data can have far-ranging impacts across your account. That's why (typically) we believe if there is an issue with your data it deserves to be handled delicately and by the person who knows your data best: you.

Still, some data fixes can mean a LOT of time and manpower. Like mistakes on an inventory import. Which is why, in that instance, we decided to build an UN-DO BUTTON.

The inventory import feature is a powerful tool that allows you to create thousands (or tens-of-thousands) of pieces of inventory at one time, but sometimes there's an issue with the data. It happens. We know. Perhaps there were errors in the data or maybe data was mapped into the wrongs fields. Whatever the issues, it can create a huge mess that needs to be cleaned up. So, Guess what?

You can now Un-Do inventory imports.

It's true! As long as NONE of the data has been changed and no more than 48 hours have passed, you can delete the impacted import, removing that data from your account. Of course, we recommend building internal processes for reviewing imported data in order to recognize any data issues before that data is modified so you can delete it, if necessary.

To learn more about undoing inventory imports, we strongly suggest you check out our Knowledge Base.

All the best,
Brendan Sweeney
